This isn’t your silly, average, little beer tasting. This is the second of a two part series “jointly hosted by Dogfish Head Brewery’s founder and president Sam Calagione, Dr. Patrick McGovern of U Penn, and Dr. Agnes Hsu, China Institute’s Resident Scholar.” As you can see, this is some serious stuff. “Calagione has worked closely woth McGovern to bring ancient brewing history to life.” The first beer they made together was based on molecular evidence found in a tomb in Turkey that may have belonged to King Midas, hence the Midas Touch beer. The second ale was Chateau Jiahu (above) which is “based on an ingredient list unearthed from a 9,000-year-old Chinese tomb and the oldest known fermented beverage evidence in the history of civilizaiton.” Wow! Insanity. Great Christmas gift for beer lovers too.
